Columbus Blue Jackets Face Investigation Over Babcock Controversy

The Columbus Blue Jackets are currently facing an investigation by the NHL regarding the actions of former head coach Mike Babcock. This scrutiny comes after allegations surfaced that Babcock used one-on-one meetings with players to review their cellphone pictures, raising concerns about his approach to player interactions. The controversy began on September 12, 2023, during an episode of the 'Spittin’ Chiclets' podcast, where former NHL player Paul Bissonnette claimed Babcock requested to see the photos on captain Boone Jenner's phone. Following this revelation, both the Blue Jackets and Jenner defended the initial meeting, stating it was misrepresented. Babcock resigned just 78 days after being hired, without having led a single practice. The NHL Players' Association has since been in contact with players about their experiences with Babcock, as the league prepares to determine the implications of his actions for his potential hiring by the Edmonton Oilers. With significant changes in the Blue Jackets' management and roster since Babcock's departure, the investigation is set to uncover more about his brief and controversial time in Columbus.
